With the competition between different online casinos and online gambling operations sharpening the way it has for the last few years, it has become customary for these venues to deploy a new weapon in the fight against similar online operations vying for the same customer base.
The signup bonus.
Almost all
online casino offer a special bonus to players making their first deposits.this is usually a percentage of the first deposit and there are a set of rules governing how such bonuses allow payouts for players. Usually it takes a set minimum amount of wagering before the casino will allow any cashouts. The reason is that they need to make the whole thing financially sound, otherwise they'd all fall victim to casino scalpers.
One might say that these rules are really meant to dampen the effect of the bonus and thus make them pratically insignificant. The matter of the fact is that signup bonuses can change the equation of the whole play altogether.
Let us take online blackjack for example. Assuming that the software is 100% fair, regular blackjack players ( not the rookies but those who play according to a sound strategy) are subject to a 0,5 percent house edge. What this means is that no matter how sound they play, if they play long enough they'll always end up with a 0.5 % loss on the initial investment they've made. There are of course lucky streaks – when one could walk out with a substantial amount of money in winnings – but provided they'd stay to play some more eventually they'd end up with the 0,5 % deficit that is the house edge.
Card counters, however, have the whole game the other way around. The edge ( about 0,5 to 1 percent) is on their side. It is in the best interest of these players to play as many hands as possible in the shortest amount of time to take full advantage of that 1% edge that they have.
Regular blackjack players, however, have something else coming to their rescue when it comes to the edge. The signup bonus. This changes the edge in favour of the player. If somebody wagered let's say 100 dollars, the house edge coming off of it is 50 cents. ( it may not seem like much, but believe you me, it adds up) Now, if before the play he recieved a 5 dollars signup bonus that still leaves him ahead with 4,50 dollars won.
It's rather easy to see how the signup bonus changes the edge.
Many casino players however, known as casino scalpers or bonus whores, are not content to play on taking advantage of the advantage play stemmed from the offered bonus. They want to collect as many bonuses as possible without actually making the amount of wagers required by the casino to make the payout. ( in some casinos this amount can be as high as 25 times the bonus plus the first deposit the player received the bonus for)
These guys more often than not bote off a whole lot more than they can chew.
You see not all online casinos are fair and straightforward. There are those known as "rogues" which, despite offering extreme ( and sometimes downright unreal) signup bonuses never plan to make any payment to the players whatsoever.
Luckily there are a number of casino watchdog sites prowling the internet for just this type of trouble.
Once published on the blacklists of the watchdogs hopefully rogues will lose their customers fast and be robbed of the opportunity to ever scam somebody again.
